Gatomboya Factory was established in 1987 by Mathira Coop but later joined Barichu Coop in 1996. Gatomboya serves over 700 smallholder farmers within four different communities - many farmers tend to have small plots because land is continually split up smaller and smaller as it's passed down through generations. This makes backyard farming extremely prevalent! We were drawn to this coffee because of the crisp, clean fruits and beautifully balanced acidity. SL-28 and SL-34 make up this specific lot, farmed between 1700 - 1800 masl.
